1976 Swine Flu: Government 25 Flu 1
May 5th 2009 03:38
Between Drudge going into full panic mode to Joe Biden's warnings about travel, many would think that the recent outbreak of the H1N1 flu is going to be the next great plague. There is always a cause for concern as 36,000 Americans die every year from flu related illnesses, but sometimes the wrong response can be just as deadly. In the last "swine flu" scare in 1976, the government mandated vaccinations that ended up killing 25 Americans versus the flu that only killed one person. Dr. Ron Paul has a great op-ed today that details how the government has handcuffed physicians while contributing to the skyrocketing cost of medicine. Yet many Americans still want the government to control their health care decisions for them with the bill sent to their neighbor of course. Everyone wants universal healthcare but no one wants to pay for it. Read Ron Paul's article here.
