Heumoore Productions, the independent filmmakers who produced the critically acclaimed "The Widow's Might", recently spent five weeks in East Tennessee shooting their latest film.
Ace Wonder: Message From A Dead Man is the story of a boy detective/novelist, whose first case might also be his last. What Ace believes to be a "simple family mystery" turns into "a very real case of corporate espionage, scientific discovery, and one coldblooded killer."
This was not tiny Jefferson City's first brush with Hollywood. Asia Argento filmed J.T. Leroy's story " The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things around East Tennessee. The filmed starred Argento along with Dylan and Cole Sprouse as the title characters.
The great film October Sky highlighted various landmarks around the area, including the Tennessee Theatre standing in for a 1950's era Indianapolis.
Sam Raimi traveled through Rutledge, Jefferson City, and Morristown filming the Bruce Campbell cult classis The Evil Dead.
To date there have been over 150 feature and made for television films shot at least partially on location in the Volunteer State. This is a great accomplishment since Tennessee does not offer as many incentives as neighboring states in luring companies for on-location shoots.
Ace Wonder's producers decided not to seek Tennessee's film incentives for the five week shoot.
"It's because we weren't really planning on shooting in Tennessee very long. But, once we got here, we found more locations that we wanted than we were expecting," said Chad Gundersen of Heumoore Productions.
The film is scheduled to be released in 2011. Here are some early stills from the East Tennessee scenes.
