Arson and Hate Crimes In Tennessee

Google the names Carol Ann and Laura Stutte and you will find over 100k hits about an innocent same sex couple victimized by a racist neighbor.
The couple's home was burned to the ground last September and a slur spray painted on their garage. Gay and lesbian groups, along with local community groups, were quick to place blame and setup a fund for the newly homeless pair.
The problem? Allegedly the neighbor had nothing to do with the fire as the insurance company is claiming that the couple burned down their own home to collect the insurance money.
As a libertarian, I support DADT and same sex marriage, but the accusations thrown at the neighbor were never proven and was taken as fact by media. This bothers me because it cast a bad light on my home state. The damage can't be totally undone because the accusation gets front page headlines and the corrections go unnoticed as backpage footnotes.

In addition, I personally believe she is responsible, in part or in whole. If not, there is no denying that she is a hateful, spiteful, vile, evil, homophobe. I really wouldn't put it passed her. Of course, her responsibility will be decided in court. I'm certainly willing to embrace the court's findings.
Additionally, this one incident doesn't cast a bad light on Tennessee - there are hundreds of other incidents that do that just fine on their own. Tennessee has no shortage of hate and bias, but they also have no shortage of love and acceptance - you just have to know where to look for it.
