Back From The Dead: Drive-Ins
May 17th 2009 14:39
Call it nostalgia for some to relive the 50s and 60s or perhaps the present economic conditions, but there can be no doubt that the once near extinct drive-in movie is experiencing a distinct reemergence.
Today's drive-ins, in many instances are the same from the heyday of outdoor movie watching, but have some updates that make the experience much better for the audience.
In both drive-ins that I have visited, the clumpy old bad sound from the window speaker has been replaced with stereo sound coming directly from your speakers.
The movies at both places were first run and the sound was great. Each showed two movies for around 6.00 with the first starting at dusk. It was great to see families there making a party of the event with impromptu picnics spread throughout the parking areas.
A great idea would be to convert the "lock in" that many groups plan during the summer with an all nighter at the drive-in. Check your listings for these special triple showings that last all night for a chance to see three first run movies for the price of one.
Whether you are reminiscing your childhood or checking them out for the first time, be sure to be a part of this renaissance while you can.
I hope to see you at the party.

I'll have to check for dirive-ins in this area. It would be such fun to go again. Never knew they were coming back.
