Bad Movies I Love: Hudson Hawk
June 21st 2009 23:52
This is the first in a ten part series.
Hudson Hawk was one of the biggest box office losers in the history of cinema.
It had all of the ingredients to be a hit with well known actors Bruce Willis, Danny Aiello, and Andie MacDowell plus solid directing from Michael Lehmann, who now directs the HBO series True Blood and Big Love.
So why did the public never embrace this clever little harmless comedy? My only guess is that it may have been a little too over the top and silly for many filmgoers.
The story begins with Willis's character Eddie Hawkins being released from a ten year prison sentence. He has vowed to stay away from the cat burglary life, but is soon blackmailed by the hysterical Mayflowers(Richard E. Grant and Sandra Berhard.) They have vowed to kill Eddie's friend and partner in crime, Tommy,(Danny Aiello) if he doesn't steal some priceless Da Vinci works for the. Along the way Eddie meets and falls in love with a schizophrenic nun played by MacDowell
Tommy and Eddie have a talent for knowing the exact length of thousands of songs. This is how they mark how much time they have to complete their various thefts. These scenes mark some of the funniest moments in this film.
Sony rereleased the film in 2007 as a special edition which can be picked up on Amazon for as low as 3.99.
