Bad Movies That I Love: Amazon Women On The Moon
July 1st 2009 04:39
This is the 6th in a 10 part series
You might say that 1987's Amazon Women On The Moon was a film made before it's time. I think the 22 short segments that make up the 90 minute film would work perfectly in today's ADHD world.
The movie takes us back to a time when TV stations showed really bad films instead of infomercials to round out their 24 hour programming.
WIDB Channel 8 has chosen the 1950's film Amazon Women On The Moon for their overnight schedule. The movie routinely breaks and the station has to fill the space with other movies, public service announcements, and commercials. This is what makes up the 20 something segments that include 80's stars like Arsenio Hall, Ed Begley Jr., Griffin Dunne, Steve Guttenberg, and Rosanne Arquette.
My favorite segments include "Titan Man" about a sheepish boy who is buying a condom for the first time and just happens to be the one millionth Titan buyer and becomes the face of the company.
"Son Of The Invisible Man", starring Ed Begley Jr. as the son who has not quite lived up to his father's successes.
B.B. King and David Allen Grier are both hilarious in "Blacks Without Soul" which chronicles Grier as a very unhip Don "No Soul" Simmons.
"Critic's Corner" is a new segment on a TV show that instead of reviewing movies delves into a person's life. This segment launches into "Roast Your Loved One" where a wake is transformed into a roast.
This film came from a time when you could poke fun without being too worried that you would offend a portion of the audience. Those films are rarely made anymore.
