Bad Movies That I Love: Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man
July 8th 2009 05:01
This is the 9th in a 10 part series.
There are many reasons why I love this mindless film. The biggest is probably Mickey Rourke, I've long been a fan of this guy's work. I thought it was awesome that he finally got an Oscar nomination for last years The Wrestler. Mickey has never seemed like the elitist Hollywood type and I imagine is as good of a person as he is an actor.
Another reason is that I have always enjoyed films that feature the loner that drifts freely from city to city. I can only imagine how exhilarating it would be to travel with all of your possessions in a saddle bag, being guided solely by your dreams and the winds.
The film from 1991 stars Mickey and Don Johnson as Harley and Marlboro, two drifter friends who occasionally end up in the same city. They are back in their old hangout in Los Angeles, only to find that it is going to have to close because the city has targeted the property for redevelopment. The guys recruit a few old friends to help rob an armored truck to get the money for a new lease. The robbery doesn't go as planned however, when the truck is full of a dangerous new synthetic street drug called Crystal Dream. This mixup starts a war with some very rich powerful men who would kill to get their drugs back.
Its a good adventure buddy film that mixes action with some timely comic moments.
