Chile Earthquake Alters Earth's Axis

March 2nd 2010 21:12
The 8.8 magnitude in Chile this week was so violent that it sped up Earth's rotation and shortened a day by 1.26 millionths of a second. So I guess we will all be having to work harder to make up for the lost time. For my part, I plan on getting up at 6:59:999884ths instead of 7:00AM.

For a scientific explanation with figure skating analogies, check out National Geographic.
