Downfall: Constantin Silences Hitler Spoofs
April 21st 2010 19:37
The guys at Constantin films apparently aren't interested in making any satirical comedies anytime soon.
One of the most viral video series on the net involves a scene from their great war movie Downfall.
A scene in which Hitler is reacting angrily to losing control of Berlin has been parodied from everything from him getting mad at Kanye for interrupting Taylor Swift to his being banned from XBox live.
Unfortunately the videos are being taken down at the request of Constantin. I know that Downfall is a serious film but the parodies are probably the best source of people actually seeing the film, which is considered one of the top 100 films of all time by IMDB.
Downfall focuses on the last days of Adolf Hitler during April of 1945. Hitler's personal secretary Traudl Junge tells the story of life in Der Fuhrer's bunker. Facing inevitable defeat, Hilter's moods range between unjustified optimism that his forces will still break through to rage against the incompetence and betrayal of his military commanders. Eva Braun parties while Magda Goebbels kills her children. The movie goes on to show how Hitler and Eva lived their last hours in the Bunker.
The film starts out with a short clip from a documentary where the real life Traudl Junge speaks about how even though she feels like she should be angry with her younger self for becoming Hitlers secretary.
It is a truly well made film as are most of the parodies.
I've included two clips, the first is from the original film and the second is a parody of Hitler learning that the movie Twilight has become very successful.
