Former Andy Griffith Actress Robbed In Mayberry
April 30th 2010 05:06
The actress that played Thelma Lou on the Andy Griffith show recently moved to Mount Airy, NC because she had been robbed three times in Los Angeles.
Betty Lou Lynn played Deputy Barney Fife's girlfriend throughout the beloved series.
Mount Airy is the birthplace of show creator Andy Griffith and served as the fictionalized Mayberry in the classic series that ran from 1960 to 1968. The show has lived on through reruns and has never been off the air in over four decades.
So how was Ms. Lynn treated in her new hometown?
Her wallet was recently stolen at a local shopping center.
A man grabbed Lynn’s wallet from her hands at the shopping center just before 4 p.m. and fled. The wallet contained $130, according to a Mount Airy Police Department report.
Police were notified and after a short foot chase, the robbery suspect was caught under a bridge on West Pine Street near the location of the crime, arrest records show.
The Mount Airy News reported that police arrested Shirley Walter Guynn of Cana, Va. He's being held in Surry County Jail on a $10,000 bond. It was not immediately clear Thursday if he has a lawyer.
Now one bad person doesn't make Mount Airy a dangerous town, but robbing a person that helped put your town on the map sure does give some bad publicity to the little community that hosts an annual event called "Mayberry Days."
