Hidden Car Incentives For May
May 9th 2011 14:37
I hate to rain on an already flooded economy, but with few exceptions its not a great time to be buying a new car. The earthquake in Japan has greatly reduced the inventory on many Asian car makers and high gas prices have many here shopping for high gas mileage vehicles.
Even though you might be paying $120.00 dollars to fill up that huge SUV you will take a far bigger loss in reduced trade in value at the moment. My advice is to suffer through until the oil speculators figure out what the rest of us already know, that oil inventories are quite high right now.
Now for the good news, there are some deals to be had out there. I'm not sure if it is the slow economy but BMW has some good public and hidden incentives on remaining 2010 and even some 2011 models.
If you have a really good credit score Chrysler is offering 0% financing on select vehicles. I drove a Grand Caravan for a week last month. For a big vehicle it gets decent mileage, around 27 on the highway, and is quite comfortable.
Ford, which makes the great Fusion model, is offering 5,000 dollar rebates on remaining 2010 models.
If you are in the storm battered Southeast U.S. its possible to find great deals on damaged vehicles. I had a friend who saved 25% on a hail damaged car in Tennessee. These cars may be a tough resale if you plan on driving as is so be prepared to keep it for years if bought damaged.
As always try to have your financing in hand before you walk in to the dealer so you can shop as a "cash" customer. It is also smart to be flexible in your car of choice. In other words don't be set on brand, model, and even color when you walk on the lot.
