Holiday Inn Launches Human Bed Warming Service
January 24th 2010 07:02
If I hadn't read it in a respected newspaper, I would have thought it was a joke but hotel leader Holiday Inn is offering a new service at selected locations in England. If requested at bedtime, a hotel employee in a warming suit will lie in your bed for five minutes to warm it up for you.
Dr Chris Idzikowski, director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, said the idea could help people get better sleep.
"There's plenty of scientific evidence to show that sleep starts at the beginning of the night when body temperature starts to drop."
"A warm bed - approximately 20 to 24C - is a good way to start this process whereas a cold bed would inhibit sleep.
"Holiday Inn's new bed warmers service should help people achieve a good night's sleep especially as it's taking much longer for them to warm up when they come in from the snow.
I just don't see this catching on in the U.S.
