Steve GannLay Off The Cao

Many to the right bloggers and political junkies(including me) were outraged this past Saturday when Representative Anh Joseph Cao of Louisiana voted with the Democrats in support of the health reform act. He was the only Republican to join Pelosi in the close vote that eventually passed 220-215.
Cao won this seat against the incumbent Democrat William Jefferson, who famously used the National Guard to get the 90,000 he had stuffed in his New Orleans freezer only a day or two after Katrina nearly destroyed the city.
Cao never claimed to be a conservative and has only been a Republican for a couple of years. He did, however vote against Cap and Trade(nicknamed Cap and Tax by conservatives) and the 780 billion dollar stimulus. When it came to health reform his staff said that he did read the entire 2,000 page bill . There is a YouTube video proving this by showing him carrying the bill around with him.
According to his staff, calls favoring the health bill ran in the 80 percentile. Remember this is a very Democratic heavy district. While Cao shares many Americans concern about deficits he voted for what the overwhelming majority of his constituents wanted.
Isn't this what our representatives are supposed to do, to give us a voice in congress? Why I don't agree with his vote, I can't criticize him for giving a voice to the people who sent him to Washington.
