Letourneau's Hot For Teacher Night

May 24th 2009 02:18
Mary Kay LeTourneau made headlines in the 90's when she was convicted of child rape for repeatedly having sex with one of her underage students. She is making headlines again by sponsoring a Hot For Teacher night at a Seattle bar. Her former student and now husband will serve as DJ. I suppose she did her time but still this seems wrong especially with the rash of teacher student arrests lately.

Sign of the times I guess.

Oh, mother wrote to her in prison once. I'm certain mother will be writing to her in prison again very soon.

Good on her for making a mockery of all the people who condemned her. She should never have gone to jail in the first place. The laws regarding underage sex are in place to protect the innocent. And time has proven that this case was different. Individual cases needed to be treated individually.

She is a child molester. And, when her husband loses his boyish charm, she will find another victim.

Sexual abuse of children is a cancer that has grown because people could barely acknowledge it. Let alone speak about it. let alone do something to cure it.
What we know about it comes mostly from former victims. We will never know the full extent. Infants cannot understand what is happening to them and defenses set in place that early can never be fully penetrated, if at all.
Calling this woman a child molester diminishes the magnitude of depravity and destruction wreaked on the individual and collective psyche by those who wallow in the sludge.

What needs to be taken into account here is the adolescent's degree of intellectual and emotional maturity. That is something that is hugely variable. The law should take that into account.
Most people don't understand the nature of paedophilia, or don't really want to understand. It's hard to get beyond disgust and horror.
This was a huge story with people baying for blood. Of course Mary le T. had to go to jail.

No idea who John Cooey is.

Moonglow,
I just googled 'John Cooey'
Your comparison of Mary Le Tourneau to a monster like Cooey? It's plain stupid. Just have a think about it.

I was sexually molested by a Salvation Army girl and watched by another. It was good for me because there was no bullying, only mutual consent. I was seven.
