Sleep With Shrek, Eat With Kung Fu Panda

Gaylord Hotels and Dreamworks are teaming up to compete with Disney themed hotel rooms and character breakfasts. Gaylord hotels across the country will be featuring characters from Dreamworks hit movies Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung-Fu Panda at it's properties across the U.S.
With the new deal DreamWorks will bring Shrek and other popular movie characters to its four resorts initially, Gaylord Hotels hopes to draw film-loving families with a more intimate, convenient experience.
"We're competing with Disney for the leisure customer," Gaylord Entertainment CEO Colin Reed told me Wednesday during a conference call with DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
"What we believe we can do is make this an even more intimate experience," Reed. "We can bring these characters when folks come to stay with us for two or three days. They will have the opportunity to have multiple interactions with them," Reed said.
Gaylord will roll out the first part of the program in the middle of November in its four properties, only one of which (Orlando) overlaps with Disney. The other three Gaylord properties are in the Washington D.C., Nashville and Dallas metro regions. According to the Denver Post, Gaylord is also considering adding a property in the Denver near the airport.
Katzenberg thinks Gaylord hotels' locations could also help the partnership attract customers from previously untapped areas.
"Disney isn't in Nashville. Disney isn't in Dallas. Disney isn't in Maryland," Katzenberg told me. "What we want to do is give you the opportunity to make the choice."
"We think we can create memories that families frankly won't be able to get anywhere else," Reed said.
Pricing options will be made public in July.
