Tesla: Bringing Sexy To Electric
December 17th 2009 00:25
The name Tesla has always been synonymous with electricity, starting with engineer and inventor Nicola and later to the hair metal band in the 80s. Today many people might hear the name and think cars.
Tesla Motor Company's Roadster is without a doubt the fastest electric car on the road today. The Roadster can hit 60 in under four seconds and without using an ounce of fossil fuels. Unfortunately it costs over 100,000 making it beyond reach for most. There is hope on the horizon however as Tesla has used a grant by the U.S government to build a seven passenger vehicle that will come in under 50,000.
Tesla will need to get their sedan on the market fast as high fuel prices, a greener consumer sentiment, and attractive tax incentives have competitors racing to get their own electric cars on the market.
The Chevy Volt will be on the market next year at a cost of around 40,000 for those with more modest incomes.
Next year is also the planned release for Nissan's Leaf.
Ford and startup Coda automotive are slightly behind but promise to have their own brand on the streets within five years.
It's nice to see that a dedication to the environment doesn't mean driving an ugly two seater anymore.
