World's Smallest Horse Weighs In At Six Pounds

A newborn pinto colt may be the new record holder as the world's smallest horse.
The baby colt, whose name is Einstein, was born on April 22th. He weighed in at just 6 pounds and measured an amazingly tiny 14 inches.
"We've been at this for 20 years and I've never seen one this small — never," Judy Smith, owner of Tiz A Miniature Horse Farm in Barnstead, N.H., told the Boston Herald.
"He's not a preemie. He was born three days after his due date," said Smith, who noted that Einstein has the ideal configuration for any size horse, with his long legs and a good proportion between head and body.
The average miniature horse foal stands 21 inches tall at birth and weighs 18 pounds.
Until Einstein is certified as the tiniest, the record belongs to Thumbelina, a chestnut mare born in 2001 near St. Louis. She weighed 8.5 pounds at birth and stood 11 inches.
Regardless of the outcome of the certification, Einstein is already a star on the web, His video has been seen by over 150k in just over three days on YouTube.
There are forty-eight miniature horses at Tiz A Miniature Horse Farm, which is planning on holding an open house on May 8, a day when children and adults get to visit and interact with the mini-horses.
